3 Must Visit Places in Ubud

Most of us always associate Bali with beaches. But Bali has more than just beaches. And those are what can be found in Ubud! Up at the north of Bali, you'll find the mountains, the rice field, and the waterfalls.

Since Ubud is a relatively more quiet place than Bali’s main area like Seminyak or Kuta etc, we decided to just rent a car with a driver. It's always a good idea to get a driver to drive you around Bali's more secluded areas if riding a motorcycle isn't an option for you. The full service I've got only cost me SGD50 for 9 hours of having a driver.

Because I was staying in Seminyak, the trip up to Ubud took me around an hour. It added up so I only managed to visit this 3 places. But regardless, I highly recommend these 3 places for different reasons!

#1 Tegalalang Rice Terrace

This rice terrace has been infamous on Instagram that I couldn't give it a miss. Hence, I'm checking it off my bucket list although I did not feel strongly about this place.

It felt more like a place where all tourist come to take their lovely photos and leave right after. There isn't a place where you can sit and enjoy the view since it's full of soil and some muddy areas. Unless you are willing to search for it. I promise you the walk is not easy.

In the picture, the terrace looks fairly manageable but in actual fact, it takes more than 15 minutes to reach the opposite view of the terrace. My friend and I decided we shall not brave through those terraces so we took a slightly muddy shortcut to take this wonderful shot of the place.

That said, even though I'm not a big fan of this place, I do have friends who really love this rice terrace. So I think it's still worth checking out. Near this rice terrace, you can easily find other rice terraces too!

#2 Tegenungan Waterfall

Hike, hike, hike. It seems like in Bali, you'll never get to see a view without some walking.

Tegenungan waterfall is best visited early in the morning when it is yet to be crowded. I went around the afternoon and it was too crowded to enjoy the amazing view.

Along the way down to the main waterfall, there are 2 viewpoints where you can enjoy the view of the waterfall from far. At least that kept the journey down more interesting!

After I managed to get a much closer look at the waterfall, we decided to head back because of the crowd. It took me about 15 minutes to reach to where we came from again. That was more than 100 steps of stairs I believe.

#3 Mount Batur

mount batur

This is the best place out of the 3 places I've visited.

We stumbled upon Mount Batur because we ran of ideas on what to do in Ubud and our driver suggested Mount Batur. But the drive was another 50 minutes away from the waterfall.

Since we had nothing much to do, we decided we should just visit it. And turns out, this place was so amazing it doesn't even feel like Bali. But because of the windy roads to Mount Batur, and since we had limited time, we only drove to a viewpoint to check out Mount Batur.

At the viewpoint, I was kinda freezing after sitting there for half an hour. The degree there felt like it was around 17°C! All that Bali heat is far gone.

The viewpoint that we visited is actually a restaurant. So there's food and this amazing view. I won't ask for more!

You've got to experience yourself to know how amazing it feels up here. Visiting the viewpoint has been so amazing. What more to say if we had time to get a closer look of Mount Batur!

If there's only one place you can visit in Ubud, that should be Mount Batur! If you have time, there other 2 locations are worth checking out too!
