Nusa Penida From Bali - Tour Your Way Through This Instagram Worthy Island

One of the best decisions I made when I went to Bali was to travel all the way to Nusa Penida. The journey around Nusa Penida was certainly a once in a lifetime experience. Before my trip to Nusa Penida, I've hesitated to visit the island because I thought that it was too much hassle, from getting there by boat to getting around the island.
So I took the most hassle-free option- to travel all the way to Nusa Penida through a private tour that took care of everything. I did the math, the round trip boat ride itself would have cost around Rp400k which you would need to purchase yourself early in the morning to catch the boat. Once you reach the island, you'll need transport which would cost you at least another Rp200k and above. Personally, I would rather have a piece of my mind during the whole trip at Nusa Penida, so it made more sense to get the tour which cost me Rp850k/person.
There are actually many tour packages out there with an average price of Rp950k. I've seen tour guides who are much more proficient in English which means you get to communicate with them and some that went all the way to help their tourists take pictures. While our tour guide wasn't any of them, I'm still glad I've got to visit those breathtaking scenery spots at a reasonable price.
Around 6.30am in the morning, a driver would brought us all the way to Sanur Beach to catch the boat ride which was around 8am. Assuming you decide to travel without a tour, you would need to buy your boat tickets at Sanur Beach.
Do you see how the boats are parked in the sea? Yes, you'll need to wade through the water to board the boat. There no walkway to the boat on Sanur Beach. This means that your lower body will be soaking wet, so come prepared.
45 minutes later, I found myself at Nusa Penida! Remember I mentioned a 'once in a lifetime experience' at the start of my post? It was because the ride around Nusa Penida was SO bumpy, I have never experienced such uneven roads ever in my life. Moreover, the roads are extremely narrow, it felt like it could only fit as much as one car. And thus, I don't even suggest renting a car to drive around Nusa Penida.
But anyway, first stop!
Angel Billabong was the prettiest of all. The waters were exceptionally clear and the waves hit the shore very beautifully. Given that, Angel Billabong is extremely packed with tourists and the tide rises during the day, so try to go as early as you can.
From time to time, Angel Billabong has become dangerous so do take care of yourself when you are there!
An hour drive brought us to the Broken Beach. It was quite a sight! I realized many tourists only visit the 'front' of the broken beach, but I like how the Broken Beach feels so up close from the other side.
Snorkeling, swimming, diving and sunbathing. This is the place to be. Unfortunately, I did not have enough time to do any of that because our tour guide told us that we only had 15 minutes here.
Tip: Choose 3 out of the 4 places to go with you would like to experience each location at your own pace. Because your time traveling from one location to another would use up more time than you can spend at each location.
The last boat for the day is around 4.30pm daily. If you're not spending the night at Nusa Penida, you'll have to head over the harbor around 3pm++, which makes you trip really short, so do plan in advance!
Regardless, remember to add Nusa Penida to your must-go places the next time you are in Bali!

The 'other' side of Broken Beach. |
#3 Kelingking Beach
The signature of Nusa Penida! You can walk all the way down to the beach (~45 minutes hike) but I just chose to enjoy the view from the top.
